Today’s Non-Fiction Revision Activities

You should aim to choose from one of the revision activities below.  Each activity should take you between 20-30 minutes to complete:

Speed Reading and Comparison Question (Higher) Read insert below (be sure that you read the higher insert) at least three times and annotate all extracts as much as you can (15 minutes)

What next: Answer this question as a timed activity:

Now you need to refer to Source 3, Ferry Across the Lake, and either Source 1 or Source 2. You are going to compare the use of language in two texts, one of which you have chosen.

Compare the ways in which language is used for effect in the two texts.

Give some examples and analyse the effects (16 Marks)

Remember: 1 mark = 1.5 minutes, so this should take you 24 minutes

What next: Answer this question as a timed activity:

Now you need to refer to Source 3 and either Source 1 or Source 2. You are going to compare the way that both texts use presentational features for effect.

write about the way the sources are presented

explain the effect of the presentational features

compare the way they look.

Remember: 1 mark = 1.5 minutes, so this should take you 18 minutes

Find five interesting sentence structures you could use in your writing.

 

 

Find three magazine articles and look at how the articles end in an interesting way.

 

Rewrite a newspaper article as a teenage magazine article.
