Today’s Non-Fiction Revision Activities

You should aim to choose from one of the three revision activities.  Each activity should take you between 20-30 minutes to complete:

Speed Reading and Comparison Question (Higher) Read the insert below (be sure that you read the higher insert) at least three times and annotate all extracts as much as you can (15 minutes)

What next: Answer this question as a timed activity:

Now you need to refer to Source 3, Motorbikes and Pyramids, and either Source 1 or Source 2. You are going to compare the use of language in two texts, one of which you have chosen.

Compare the ways in which language is used for effect in the two texts.

Give some examples and analyse the effects (16 Marks)

Remember: 1 mark = 1.5 minutes, so this should take you 24 minutes

4 Choose two of the three sources and compare the way that both texts use presentational features for effect.

Remember to:

write about the way the sources are presented

explain the effect of the presentational features

compare the way they look.

(12 marks)

Remember: 1 mark = 1.5 minutes, so this should take you 18 minutes
